Alibaba Business School As The Training Platform For Thai Graduates
Since international schools are widely known for providing quality education, students of International School in Bangkok have an edge over students from other schools. However, this does not mean that public and privately-owned schools do not provide quality education; it is just that international schools have better facilities, bigger campuses and English-proficient teachers.
Alibaba Group, the Chinese ecommerce giant, has committed an investment of 11 billion baht to Thailand that could benefit small farmers and rural enterprises due to the group’s experience in diverse technology. According to Jack Ma, co-founder and executive chairman of Alibaba, they are not always focused on profits. They want to help farmers with low incomes and other people to use digital technology to enhance their competitiveness on online market platforms.
However, there were concerns over the effectiveness of Thailand 4.0 initiative whether it is compelling enough to be able to attract Alibaba. Jack Ma has travelled to Thailand several times in 2016 but the ecommerce giant chose Malaysia for its first investment in ASEAN.
Prime Minister Prayut said after meeting with Jack Ma that he has personally asked for their help for the promotion of Thailand’s agricultural products, cooperatives, community enterprises and modern farming. Alibaba also runs schools for business and ecommerce development that Thai SMEs and rural enterprises can benefit from.
In response, Jack Ma said that Alibaba is focusing on Asia and collaboration with Thailand on the “Go to China” project that will bring Thai local farm products to the Chinese market. On the other hand, the “Go to Thailand” project aims to bring more Chinese visitors to Thailand.
The Ministry of Industry will also work with the China ecommerce giant so that Thai entrepreneurs can use Alibaba Business School as a platform for training. The Thai government, universities and private companies will also jointly organize a 6-month re-training for graduates so that their skillswill be improved in disruptive technology like artificial intelligence.
