Boomworks Office Created To Reflect The Views Of The Company
Boomworks is an IT company that emphasizes the wellbeing and health of its staff in the creation of its office. Staff needs are considered through flexible multifunction workspaces, individual environmental controls, access to the outside environment, integration of plants, creation of communal staff kitchen and dining and break out spaces.
Minimal energy use and passive technology is implemented like reliance to natural light and ventilation. One of the sustainable features of Boomwork’s workplace is the rainwater harvesting system that can supply water for the garden. Lighting fixtures are energy efficient and the use of recycled materials is encouraged.
The workspace of Boomworks used to be an industrial building. Some of the original raw materials like steel, timber and concrete were retained before the architects Shed recreated a different micro-environment design from its poor original state. Shed integrated a landscape in the working space in an excellent process and won a commendation for leading the way for a groundbreaking design.
Shed architects successfully transformed a 300 -square meter single story warehouse in Camperdown, New South Wales into a creative office space with support facilities, outdoor breakout spaces and IT website testing rooms. The building was designed to reflect the values of the company and its support for green initiatives like carbon offsetting, recycling, solar power, energy monitoring and sponsoring of zoo animals.
Shed architects built a timber and glass box inside the warehouse for meeting rooms, lunch rooms and testing and service areas with a garden so that sustainability initiatives can be maximized while operational costs are minimized.
At the first floor, you will find a single open-plan workspace with desks arranged on either side of the original steel roof trusses. Employees have control over the work environment through operable roof lights, operable windows and operable lower louvers. The building was conceived for the staff and not to impress clients.
During office fitouts, it is important to consider the working environment when creating office design. When the work space is well designed, the employees are happier and become more efficient and productive. Employees are also healthier and they have a sense of pride at the improvements in their office.
