For years now, people around America are celebrating the National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. People wearing ugly Christmas sweaters are flooding the malls, offices, parks and other public areas. This silly tradition has become a part of the American culture.

There are lots of people who seriously celebrate the National Ugly Christmas Sweater day every December. For a resident of Tonawanda, Scott Kozak, spends the entire year preparing his sweater to be worn on the National Ugly Christmas Sweater day. Since 2008, Scott invites his family and friends in his house to celebrate an Ugly Christmas Sweater party. He requests his guests to wear the ugliest sweater they can find. He even gives out prices to the most hideous and ridiculous sweater.

When preparing for his sweater, Kozak scouts the thrift stores for multi colored knit bearing snowflakes, Christmas bells or Christmas trees. He attaches, garlands, beads, bells, ornaments, snowflakes and tinsels on the sweater’s front and sleeves. He arranges these materials to recreate an artistic effect. Scott Kozak has tons of crazy ideas and this year, he will try installing blinking lights onto his ugly Christmas sweater. He is just the guy who would do whatever it takes to make his sweater comical and unique. He wants to wear something that his guests have never seen before.

Hosting Ugly Christmas Sweater parties have already hit mainstream. Offices, schools, restaurants and bars alike host this yearly even.

Ugly is now a trend and is gaining widespread popularity. Business minded people are cashing in huge money from this frenzy. There is an increasing demand in this cheesy apparel. Big retailers are mass producing ugly Christmas sweaters.
A Macy’s advertisement invites people to party in the busiest and ridiculous side of grandma’s house. Their ugly Christmas sweaters are priced between $39.50 and $59.50. Party City on the other hand is pricing their sweaters at $19.99.

The NFL also is in the game and has sold out its Buffalo Bills sweaters online which are priced at $75. Another high-end clothing store, Rent the Runway, recently just added the ugly Christmas sweaters to their products and is renting the sweaters at $15 per piece.
