Deltona Residents Disagreed To Stop Recycling Program
The homeowners who are living in Deltona are worried because of the recent decision from the city which will put on hold their current recycling scheme. This is worrying news even to junk hauling Orange County because this will increase the load of wastes going to the landfill.
The commissioners have already decided through a vote and on the first day of February there is no longer curbside pickup happening for all the recyclables in Deltona. A spokesperson from the city said that it was decided after foreign countries that used to accept raw recycled materials decided to stop the imports. With this, the costs for recycling raw materials have also increased.
Lee Lopez, the spokesperson for Deltona, said that starting this year they have been informed that the city will have to shoulder the costs if they want to continue with the recycling program. The main thing is that these materials are no longer going to be shipped overseas. Instead, they are going to be dump to landfills.
This is not a new problem for Deltona but it is the first city located in the Volusia County which says a lot since it is also the largest city. Other municipalities meanwhile are looking for other ways to recycle but in a much affordable program.
Lopez said that they are already exploring other options and the city needs to approve before they can move on. Many of the homeowners were disappointed with the news including Larry Purvis who asked why the suspension happened. He is concerned because the wastes are surely going to end up in the landfills which will negatively impact the environment. He added that the decision should have been given to each resident to decide whether they want to continue with the current recycling program or not.
Residents who are intent to recycle hire junk hauling Orange County and it might be the same situation for the residents of Deltona since there is no drop-off sites located near their city. One resident named Betty Plank is quite puzzled because she no choice since she considers it a burden for her and the drop off point is quite far.
