Hoteliers Complain About Excessive Noise In FCT

Most homeowners are looking for possible solutions on how to reduce traffic noise in your house because it disturbs peace and quiet. Households have the right to good night sleep and a peaceful environment that is not disrupted by blowing horns, screeching brakes and rumbling engines. Sounds of traffic are worsening every year not to include the noise from nightclubs and bars.

Noise pollution from nightclubs is the subject of complaints from hoteliers and residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They have called the attention of Abuja Environmental and Protection Board (AEPB) regarding their responsibility to control noise pollution in the territory. Hoteliers and residents have spoken to the News Agency of Nigeria so that ARPB will address the situation.

According to Tomi Akingbogun, managing director of Hotel Rosebud, the uncontrollable noise from the nightclubs along Garki Area is affecting the hospitality industry. During the previous FCT administration, noise pollution was controlled and relevant laws were effectively applied. However, most of the achievements of the past administration are being disregarded.

This is a situation similar to a neighbor that makes too much noise to a point where a business is losing profits. Nightclubs play loud music from 9pm to 4am daily which disturbs the guests and residents every night. According to MR. Akingbogun, it is the job and responsibility of AEPB to ensure that nightclubs do not abuse the environment with noise pollution.

He maintained that businesses causing too much noise must be enclosed so that the amount of noise the premises generate will not affect their neighbors. However, nightclubs have 10 or more giant speakers that have implications on people. Many of the guests who check in to the hotels have no option but check out because they cannot rest at night. This is very bad for tourism because loud noise is created until early morning.

It is not proper for homeowners to suffer from sleepless nights due to traffic noise and noisy neighbors. There must be solutions on how to reduce traffic noise in your house to be able to rest after a hard day at work. Windows can be double glazed or insulation added to dramatically reduce excessive noise.
