Indian Weddings Inviting For MICE Sector
Thailand is one of Asia’s leading countries when it comes to the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, with its many hotels attracting MICE visitors from across the globe. Recently, Thailand has managed to attract not only business travellers looking for the best meeting room packages in Bangkok, but also Indian travellers with a penchant for their extravagant wedding ceremonies.
According to two hotel groups, Marriott International and Minor Hotels, as international airlines began adding direct flights to second tier cities across the globe, Thailand’s MICE sector has been seeing an influx of Indian visitors.
Cluster Director for Sales and Marketing for three hotels, Paul Counihan, said that the three hotels under his supervision; Bangkok’s Anantara Siam, Anantara Riverside Resort and Avani Riverside Hotel, have been welcoming more Indian guests after adding packages for wedding celebrations.
According to data from his team, Anantara Siam Bangkok receives about 10-15 MICE groups every year from India, on average. Each group ranges from approximately 30 to 50 people, including corporate officers, such as major board members and senior managers.
Counihan says that high-end corporate meetings at the hotel experienced a marked 21% increase from last year’s numbers, due to direct flights from cities like Kolkata and Bengalaru becoming available, on top of the large number of flights to and from New Delhi and Mumbai.
According to him, the Avani Riverside Bangkok, another MICE hotel located not far from Anantara Riverside Resort, has also been attracting high-end Indian wedding travellers, on top of the usual fare of travellers looking for the best meeting room packages in Bangkok in the MICE sector.
Another hotel group, Marriott International, said that Thailand, as a whole, is increasing its offerings, and establishing itself as an international MICE venue.
Mike Fulkerson, Marriott International’s VP for Brand and Marketing in Asia Pacific, said that Thailand is becoming a notable corporate tour destination as well, with its major airports all connected to the major cities in the Southeast Asia region and beyond.
One of Marriott International’s hotels, the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, which underwent renovations, once having been known as the Imperial Queen’s Park.
Thailand’s MICE bureau recently worked on ‘India In-depth’, a high-level discussion regarding the MICE sector of Thailand and how to market it effectively.
