Moving Boxes Designed To Prevent Movers From Leaving Their Pets
Every 1st of July is a symbol of a new beginning for the residents of Quebec but this is a sad day for pets because majority of them are neglected by their owners. The Canada Day is also popularly referred to as Quebec’s moving day because this is when majority of the leases in the province are expiring. The downside, based on reports, is that over 1,600 pets are left behind by the owners when they move on this very day. They got busy with finding moving boxes for sale, packing and cleaning that they forgot about their pets.
This is the reason why one company decided to do something about this and be the symbol of the pets that are left behind.
A partnership was born between Home Hardware and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or SPCA and they developed cardboard boxes used for moving but in the shapes of common household pets including cats, rabbits and dogs. The message that the campaign wanted to send across could not be more crystal clear – do not forget to bring your pets when you are moving away to a new home.
A press release was made for the initiative and pet-shaped cardboard boxes were created to raise awareness regarding this very serious problem as well as to help raise funds to be given to the SPCA to improve the campaign of abandoned household pets.
The cute boxes were not made to be used as a cage for the pets because it will be a cruel act but rather it is as a collection box for donations that are situated in all checkout stores of Home Hardware that are participating in the campaign. These are scattered all over Montreal and displayed weeks before 1st of July.
Montreal SPCA’s general manager, Elise Desauliers, said thatper abandonment is increasing three times annually during the month of July in Montreal. This is why the campaign made by Home Hardware is essential to increase the awareness regarding the problem.
Quebec Retail Operation’s Director under Home Hardware, Mario Durocher, said that they are hoping that the boxes will serve as a reminder for the Quebecers who are planning to move in 2018. As they are busy buying moving boxes for sale, they should also keep in mind that their pets should not be left behind.
