Perth Shop Employee Left Traumatized After Armed Bandits Encounter
A store clerk had an unfortunate encounter while at work in a shop at Como. Armed bandits, with a machete and a gun, entered the store with intention of robbery. The ordeal lasted for two minutes and now the employee is scared to go back to work. This incident has caught the attention of the locals who reiterated once more the importance of Perth security doors in both businesses and residential properties.
The hold-up was caught by the security cameras installed inside the shop of IGA X-press which is located in Canning Highway. It happened at 10 in the evening.
The first bandit came into the store with a machete while the second one was holding what seems like a shotgun.
Looking at the security footage recorded, the female store clerk who is about 30 years old immediately raised her hand in a gesture of surrender while the man with the machete told her to open the till. The man with the shotgun was wearing a hat with wide brim so his face is covered and he took the money from the till and put everything in his while the weapon was trained on the store clerk.
The store manager tried to intervene by going to the victim but the shotgun’s was instead transferred to him. He was then told to drop on the floor. The bandits took the money from the register along with cigarettes. Some of the coins they took scattered on the parking lot in their haste to get away using a light-colored sedan.
The store clerk was left behind crying and cowering behind the cash register as she trembles with fear. According to the manager of the IGA, Isaak Nieuwkerk, the robbery lasted for less than two minutes.
This is not the first incident wherein the store, a family-owned business, was robbed. Four months prior, the manager of the store was also threatened by robbers using a razor blade. Mr. Nieuwkerk said that people keep doing it because they think they will not be caught. He expressed his disbelief with the kind of gun the suspect was holding. This is a wakeup call for them to up their security and the locals installed Perth security doors to make sure they are not targeted by these robbers.
