Record Breaking Number Of UK Tourists Visits Maldives

From January to December 2018, a total of 114,602 tourists from the UK arrived at the Indian Ocean destination compared to the total 103,977 in 2017.The United Kingdom is the second largest source of European inbound market for tourism in Maldives and the third largest globally. Holidaymakers from the UK account for 7.7% of total tourist arrivals to Maldives in 2018.
In 2018, Maldives also celebrated major transformations in infrastructures and the opening of several new resorts that will cater to tourists. Among the newly opened resorts are The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort and Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi. For 2019, at least 17 additional resorts are being planned in Maldives including Lux* North Male Atoll, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort and The Nautilus.
