March 20, 2016 – As soon as you enter the world of business, you’d be faced with the challenge of competing with many other companies that offer the same products and services that you do and you would have to do all it takes to standout. There are many ways to do this. Utilizing effective marketing strategies can do wonders for your business. However, marketing is only one of the important factors that you should give focus to. If there is one thing that is as important as or more important than marketing, it would have to be your product because that is what you will use to gain profit.

According to the Food Marketing Institute, the average US supermarket has about 40,000 items in their shelves. If your product would be placed in supermarkets, you are basically just one fish in the reef. Your product is considered as the face of your company but how will you be able to make your face standout? Why, through product packaging of course! You should give enough thought and consideration as well as integrate marketing elements into your product’s packaging design. Here are the rules of product packaging that would make your product standout.

  1. Honesty is the best policy. Companies who are new to the business game would want to present their products in the most perfect way possible. However, this often leads to the product’s packaging depicting an exaggerated version of the product inside which could mislead the customers. Consumers would want to see honest and inexpensive products so you should think about when designing.
  2. Simplicity is beauty. Your product’s packaging should be able to tell the customers two important things: what the product is for, and what is the brand behind it? Most products fail to provide this information to customers when that is actually all they’re looking for.
  3. Originality is a byproduct of sincerity. With so many competing items, you would need originality to standout. Try to make your product look different from the others. Analyze your competition as there are always similarities between products and stray from that.

Now how about if you are conducting your business online like Papermart.com? Do these rules still apply? Why yes of course. Product packaging is still important even if they’re not tangible to the consumers. You just have to be a little more creative.
